This national distinction recognizes Sherman Oaks Hospital as among the top in the nation in protecting patients from preventable harm and errors in the hospital.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Sherman Oaks Hospital for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”

This is the 8th consecutive time that Sherman Oaks Hospital has been awarded an “A” grade by The Leapfrog Group. The hospital has been receiving the award since 2018, a true testament to its continuing commitment to hospital safety and exceptional care. Sherman Oaks Hospital is also nationally recognized as a “100 Top Hospital” by IBM Watson Health for the years 2020, 2019, 2017, and 2016.

“I am pleased to announce that Sherman Oaks Hospital once again has received an “A” for patient safety for the 8th time, and I am very honored of our healthcare team for consistently demonstrating clinical excellence throughout the years,” said EM V. Garcia, Administrator of Sherman Oaks Hospital, which is a member of Prime Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest hospital systems with 45 hospitals in 14 states. “Nothing is more important than the safety of our patients, and our incredible team of providers, employees, and support staff works tirelessly to ensure our hospital is a safe place to come for care,” Garcia added. “We have faced certain challenges during the previous years, but these dedicated individuals have continued to make patient safety possible to protect our patients from preventable errors, injuries, and infections. A recognition that can be attributed in part to our team’s ability to recognize and meet the changing needs of our community through our specialty services and programs.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
