Our psychiatric and mental health services population typically ranges from 12 years of age through older adults. While our inpatient serves the behavioral treatment demands and needs of adults and older adults (geriatrics), we treat a number of pediatric population (12-21 years of age) in our emergency department and intensive outpatient programs. Sherman Oaks Hospital is a 5150 psychiatric facility designated by the California Department of Mental Health for all age groups; and approved by the Los Angeles Emergency Medical Services to treat pediatric emergencies. Psychiatric and mental health services at Sherman Oaks Hospital includes diagnostic examination to determine and evaluate the whole individual including physical, genetic, developmental, emotional, cognitive, educational, family, peer, and social components.

Intensive Outpatient Services
The intensive outpatient program at Sherman Oaks Hospital is a non-residential, hospital-based, outpatient mental health treatment program that caters across age groups who have a diagnosis of treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other chronic disorders. Our interprofessional team works with patients and their support groups to manage their psychiatric conditions.
The length of program varies on progress and treatment evaluations. Treatment is conducted by psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, licensed nurses, and clinical social workers and therapists in an individual (as appropriate) and group setting. Group therapy promotes coping skills, stress management, goal attainment, and treatment compliance.
Mental Health Conditions
The diagnostic statistical manual, fifth edition (DSN-V) is considered in the diagnostic and treatment planning. Usual psychiatric conditions managed at the hospital include:

Psychiatric and mental health services’ goal is to create an effective plan that will lead each patient on the road to stability. We will also make a discharge plan in order to facilitate a healthy mind and body lifestyle at home.
Admission Process
Admissions and referrals are made according to the psychiatric and behavioral needs of the patient. Patients may require acute psychiatric inpatient admissions while others would require referral for transfers, or outpatient treatment services. The hospital, along with the client and/or family work collaboratively to ensure safety and effective treatment plans.
